Kentucky is one of 19 states to permit school CP as a form of discipline. This is despite clear and compelling evidence corporal punishment causes injury, is ineffective in promoting positive student behavior, interferes with student learning, is used disproportionately, and creates a negative school climate. Students must be safe and free from physical and emotional harm in schools.

Just about anyone who works in the world of policy will tell you that it can be easy to grow discouraged when you’re working in pursuit of long-term policy and systems change. However, following the completion of our recent qualitative study, Policymaker Perspectives on Child Maltreatment Prevention in NC, the Policy Team at Prevent Child Abuse North Carolina (PCANC) have found ourselves savoring a sense of hope.
