Aspirations for Children and Families
Aspirations for children and families represent the key facets of health and well-being that PCA America and our partners are aiming to influence directly and indirectly through our efforts (e.g., HFA home visiting, policy advocacy, etc.).
The aspirations and associated Family Well-being indicators can currently be examined through existing data sources within regional populations, and ideally over time within populations.
Prevent Child Abuse America invests in innovative, evidence-based strategies that support primary prevention and family support services, and provides the field with the necessary tools, resources, and knowledge to create the conditions for all children, families, and communities to thrive.
The Family Well-being Indicators are one such innovation.
Developed in partnership with families, community leaders, public health professionals, private philanthropy, and other national partners, The Family Well-being Indicators compiles the national and state data needed to understand what it takes to build supportive environments and relationships where all children can grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed. It includes datasets that identify promising trends such as reductions in adverse childhood experiences, child flourishing estimates, as well as child maltreatment investigations, victimizations, and fatalities.

An aligned and comprehensive primary prevention ecosystem includes families, communities, elected officials and policy makers, and cross-sector (e.g., child welfare, education, business and economic development, health, housing, government, etc.) organizations and institutions at regional, state, and national levels. PCA America and its network are part of the primary prevention ecosystem. There are seven leverage points that are needed to build a successful and effective ecosystem.
The “Zooming Out” Speaker Series was created to inform our process and support building a Primary Prevention Ecosystem. These learning sessions provide a deeper understanding of the contexts, environmental factors, and trends that impact our work.
