In 2008 Prevent Child Abuse America introduced the Pinwheels for Prevention® campaign. What our research showed, and what our experiences since then have reinforced, is that people respond positively to pinwheels, which represent childlike whimsy and lightheartedness and our vision for a world where all children grow up happy, healthy, and prepared to succeed in supportive families and communities.
Whether you are business or corporation enacting policies that impact the work-life balance of your employees or a neighbor who offers a respite from the demands of parenting, we all have an effect on the lives of children. Children who are raised with safe, stable, and nurturing relationships and environments are more academically and financially successful and grow up to be productive, contributing members of their communities. Pinwheels are a reminder that we all play a role in children’s lives.
How Can You Get Involved?
Pinwheels for Prevention® campaigns provide a unique opportunity for individuals and organizations to take action. Discover how you can get involved by contacting the Prevent Child Abuse America state chapter near you. (Many state chapters can provide additional opportunities to share your time and talents—contact them to determine what volunteer opportunities exist in your community.)
Pinwheel Activities for You and Your Child
Show your support for our nation’s children and help get your children involved in the movement by making your own pinwheel display. The following activities are great ways to inspire involvement at your local school, community center, religious institution, or even just within your family.
For aspiring artists, here is a pinwheel coloring sheet. For the future engineers, here are instructions on how to make your own pinwheel.
