Child Welfare Information Gateway promotes the safety, permanency, and well-being of children, youth, and families by connecting child welfare, adoption, and related professionals as well as the public to information, resources, and tools covering topics on child welfare, child abuse and neglect, out-of-home care, adoption, and more.

A service of the Children’s Bureau, Administration for Children and Families, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, we provide access to print and electronic publications, websites, databases, and online learning tools for improving child welfare practice, including resources that can be shared with families. Multimedia Gallery

Multimedia can be used to raise child abuse prevention awareness and promote the importance of strengthening and empowering families to prevent child abuse and neglect. These videos present a series of conversations intended to highlight the true value of family-focused child abuse prevention programs. Share these informative tools to engage both community partners and families in supporting thriving families and children.

Child Maltreatment Data

Each year, the Children’s Bureau releases a detailed report exploring the data found in the 2021 Child Maltreatment Report, which covers child abuse and neglect known to child protective services agencies in the United States. The 2021 Child Maltreatment Report is an important resource relied upon by researchers, practitioners, and advocates throughout the world.

Protective Factors and ACEs

Knowledge and understanding of protective factors and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) can inform efforts to reduce the risk of maltreatment and prevent recurrence of abuse or neglect by drawing on family strengths and acknowledging the impact of traumatic events.

National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect

The 23rd National Conference on Child Abuse and Neglect (NCCAN), sponsored by the Children’s Bureau, will be held virtually over the course of 2 weeks in April 2023.
