CEO Statement on the End of Federal Government Shutdown

As a national organization committed to the well-being and health of children and families, Prevent Child Abuse America welcomes the end of the government shutdown and encourages the expedited full restoration of the vital services that support and strengthen millions of families every day.

An open and fully functioning government is essential to a healthy and thriving ecosystem of supports for families, including access to nutrition, housing, health, and early childhood programs. These programs are not abstract line items in a budget—they support children, reduce family stress, and help communities and neighborhoods thrive.

The shutdown in federal operations and the subsequent issues with funding for critical programs shed light on just how essential these supports are for families and communities. The pause in federal investments emphasized the need for tangible supports that enhance family economic mobility, ease stress and strain on caregivers, and reaffirms our collective responsibility to create the conditions where all children can meet their potential. Federal funds provide stability, predictability, and the investments necessary to strengthen family well-being.

Prevent Child Abuse America remains steadfast in its vision of building a world where all children and families live a purposeful and happy life with hope for the future.  That future includes stable resources, investments in prevention, and policies that reflect what all families need to be successful.  As Congress considers fiscal year 2026 funding, children and families must remain a priority.
