Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America), the nation’s leading organization dedicated to the prevention of child abuse and neglect, is honored to be one of the recipients of the Center for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) 5-year cooperative agreement aimed at strengthening public health systems and services across the U.S. This award will allow PCA America to translate public health science into action, promote health equity, and prevent Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) through its extensive nationwide networks of state chapters and signature Healthy Families America home visiting sites.

October is National Bullying Prevention Month
Did you know that 1 in 5 high school students are bullied in the U.S.? That’s 8.2 million every year. Bullying is unwanted, aggressive behavior among school-aged children that involves a real or perceived power imbalance. This year’s National Bullying Prevention Month is the opportunity to unite everyone to take on bullying. It’s a time to examine best practices when it comes to creating respectful school environments that foster inclusion and respect. Every October, thousands of students, teachers, parents, and community members around the nation, and even the world, join in taking action. Plus, celebrate Unity Day, held the 3rd Wednesday, by wearing and sharing the color orange.
Casey, Brown, Baldwin Introduce Legislation to Reduce Child Poverty
U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Chair of the Senate HELP Subcommittee on Children and Families, Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) introduced the Child Poverty Reduction Act to commit the Nation to cutting child poverty by half in five years and to implement an accountability framework to ensure we achieve this goal. U.S. Representative Danny Davis (D-IL-7) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Prevent Child Abuse America (PCA America), the nation’s oldest and largest organization committed to preventing child abuse and neglect before it happens, announced today that Mary Lubben joined the organization as its new Chief Financial Officer, starting Sept. 18.
We need a federal law to end corporal punishment in schools
Research has shown that physical punishment is an ineffective and harmful practice that increases children’s aggression and disobedience. It also lowers their school performance. Yet 18 states still permit their public school personnel to hit children in the name of discipline.
