Families Forward Virginia disrupts the cycles of child abuse, neglect and poverty by strengthening Virginia’s families and communities.

Key Issue Areas

Participates in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) prevention efforts with the programs ACE Interface and Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE).

Leads in Neglect prevention efforts and served 8,345 individuals in 2020 with the program Strengthening Families Program.

Co-leads in Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) prevention efforts and served 29,782 individuals in 2020 with the program Stewards of Children (Darkness to Light).

Utilizing the Protective Factors Framework through ACEs, Advocacy, Home Visiting, and Training.

The chapter works with the following evidence-based home visiting models: Healthy Families America (HFA), Parents as Teachers (PAT), and Comprehensive Health Investment Project (CHIP) of Virginia and participates in the statewide home visiting coalition.

Advocacy efforts include

  • Restoring Medicaid Home Visiting funding
  • Making the Children's cabinet more permanent
  • Strengthening Economic Supports for families (Paid sick leave/family leave, TANF enhancements, SNAP etc)
