Key Issue Areas
Participate in Abuse Head Trauma (AHT) prevention efforts with the program Period of Purple Crying.
Participates in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) prevention efforts with the programs ACE Interface, Healthy Outcomes from Positive Experiences (HOPE), and Positive Childhood Experiences (PCEs).
Lead in Neglect prevention efforts with the program Strengthening Families Program.
Lead in Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) prevention efforts with the program Stewards of Children (Darkness to Light).
Utilizing the Protective Factors Framework through ACEs, Advocacy, Evaluation, Home Visiting, and Training.
Implementing the Essentials for Childhood Framework strategies: Raise Awareness & Commitment, Norms Change and Programs, and Policy/Advocacy.
The chapter works with the following evidence-based home visiting models: Early Head Start (Home Visiting), Family Connect, Family Resource Centers (FRCs), Healthy Families America (HFA), Home Instruction for Parents of Preschool Youngsters (HIPPY), Nurse Family Partnership (NFP), Parents as Teachers (PAT), SafeCare Augmented, and Triple P and participates in the statewide home visiting coalition.
Advocacy efforts include
- Increase economic support for all families to thrive by: Promoting the coordination of prevention efforts; Increasing prevention funding to optimize resources dedicated to primary prevention; Delinking poverty from neglect
- Optimize resources dedicated to addressing substance use disorders in families
- Prioritize and protect funding for child sexual abuse prevention in Colorado; Establish, and connect longterm funding pathways to sustain and scale Illuminate Programs including but not limited to Family Connects and Healthy Families America
