Sanford (Sandy) Bohrer was a Senior Partner in the law firm of Holland & Knight, working out of its Miami office. He was Co-chair of the firm’s media law practice and served for many years as head of the firm’s litigation section’s pro bono practice. He represented The Miami Herald and Miami New Times for decades, in addition to representing dozens of other broadcasters, authors, and publishers on matters covering the entire spectrum of media law.
Mr. Bohrer taught “Children and the Law” at the University of Miami (2012–13), “Intolerance and the Media” and “Children and the Media” at the University of Miami’s School of Communications. In March 2017, The Miami Herald published his op-ed “‘Tolerance’ is shallow; ‘acceptance’ goes way deeper.”
With his daughter, Jessica Bohrer, he co-authored the children’s book “Your Voice Is Your Superpower, A Beginner’s Guide to Freedom of Speech (and the First Amendment).”
Mr. Bohrer is a board member of Citrus Health Network, which is the lead agency in Miami-Dade and Monroe counties for the provision of services for children who are victims of or at risk for abandonment, abuse, or neglect by their parents.
Mr. Bohrer is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of Colgate University and obtained his law degree from Columbia University School of Law. The Best Lawyers in America guide lists him in five separate categories, including Intellectual Property Litigation, First Amendment Law, and Media Law.
