The mission of Prevent Child Abuse Illinois is to prevent child abuse by providing statewide leadership through education, public awareness, support for community initiatives, and advocacy.

Key Issue Areas

Participates in Abuse Head Trauma (AHT) prevention efforts with the program Happiest Baby on the Block.

Participates in Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) prevention efforts with the program State Coalition on ACEs.

Participates in Neglect prevention efforts with the program Strengthening Families Program.

Participates in Child Sexual Abuse (CSA) prevention efforts with the program Stewards of Children (Darkness to Light).

The chapter works with the following evidence-based home visiting models: Early Head Start (Home Visiting), Healthy Families America (HFA), Nurse Family Partnership (NFP), Parents as Teachers (PAT), and Baby Talk and participates in the statewide home visiting coalition.

Advocacy efforts include

  • Medicaid expansion to cover Doula services in home visiting
  • Paid Family Leave
  • Creating a more equitable and effective Early Childhood Funding system
