U.S. Senators Bob Casey (D-PA), Chair of the Senate HELP Subcommittee on Children and Families, Sherrod Brown (D-OH), and Tammy Baldwin (D-WI) introduced the Child Poverty Reduction Act to commit the Nation to cutting child poverty by half in five years and to implement an accountability framework to ensure we achieve this goal. U.S. Representative Danny Davis (D-IL-7) introduced companion legislation in the U.S. House of Representatives.

Research has shown that physical punishment is an ineffective and harmful practice that increases children’s aggression and disobedience. It also lowers their school performance. Yet 18 states still permit their public school personnel to hit children in the name of discipline.

Experiencing family violence has been linked to adverse health and economic opportunity. Yet, child maltreatment and intimate partner violence (IPV) are preventable public health issues.

In late 2022 through early 2023, 3 AAP Chapters engaged in projects to enhance collaboration among community organizations, to better support children and families.
